January 28th, 2011 marked the 4th Friday 6th Anniversary and what a celebration it was! 50+ folks gathered at our home, the salmon chowder went quickly, but not the music. A highlight came with awesome performance poetry backed by a slew of jazz musicians – saxes, clarinet, bass, snare, fiddles, guitars.
We are truly amazed at the talented musicians and good friends that grace our home every month….a variety of musical, artistic, and even political persuasions all under one little roof….Gives us hope for the world!
More about 4th Friday: The 4th Friday of nearly every month since January of 2005 Bill & Kathy cook up a big main dish and between 25 and 50 musicians, artists and friends come together to eat, play music, and visit. The parties have taken on a life of their own and become a great way for artists of all sorts to connect. From folk, jazz, and blues musicians; to Hungarian folk dancers; to poets, painters, and photographers, the mixes have made for some memorable and inspirational events at their home on Cherry Street.
After a visiting friend from the Three Rivers Folklife Society attended and decided to start a similar gathering in the Tri-Cities, Bill & Kathy thought why not spread the idea? They have come up with 12 recipes, one for every month of the year, and decided to publish a 4th Friday cookbook which will hopefully be available within the next year. It will contain recipes, tips, drawings by Bill, and a bit of 4th Friday history as well.
