Buzzing electric lights,
Bugs that swarm without respite
Laughing chattering crowds below
Dressed in their sexy summer clothes

High school pretty, high school lean
Hanging out at the Dairy Queen

He pulls into the parking lot
Shuts off the car when he finds a spot
He sees no faces that he knows
To smile or call his name
He feels exposed

It’s the dread and the shame of being one
Of the unknown, undesirable ones
Of being eyes that want to look
Of eyes that page the dirty book

He has no place among the clique
He is not one of the elite
He stands there in that buggy heat
The smell of antifreeze and steam so sweet

It’s the dread and the shame of being one
Of the unknown undesirable ones

It’s small town big time football night
Sky is aglow above the stadium lights
Beneath that daylight nighttime glow
Cheerleaders dancing all in a row

Sing song voices feet kick high
Blue skirted bottoms and golden thighs

It’s his daylight dread and nighttime dream
The Most Beautiful Girl He’s Never Seen
The long lonely emptiness of being seventeen
The Most Beautiful Girl He’s Never Seen
Most Beautiful Girl He’s Never Seen.
