There’s a dirt runs along the river past my front yard
And the summer’s dust’ll kill ya but the winters can be mighty hard
Trains rumble day and night as the neighbors they come and go
Life’s a twisted crooked web for lots of folks don’t you know

A hobo builds himself a fire in the winter night
Underneath the bridge along the river for his warmth and his light
As I stoke my firebox I can see his camp through the frosted pane
So I pull down my blinds and try to get comfortable again

Chorus:
Livin in my neighborhood
Their mama’s always told them to be good
Just too much shit along the way
Livin in my neighborhood today

Sister Jean walks around with a pistol strapped upon her hip
Underneath her hippie bandana she hides an extra 9 mm clip
Grows an organic garden keeps a shotgun underneath her bed
She’s got a pain in her heart and there’s a worm growing in her head

Brother John walks down to see me every once in a while
With his military coat, coffee cup, and a toothy smile
But John spends most of his days at the VA hospital just waiting in line
He’s got that Agent Orange disease, the man’s got a worried mind

Chorus

Crazy Mary seems to fight with someone just about every day
Some say she’s got a bad temper but I believe it’s because she likes it that way
Always yelling at somebody or threatening with a baseball bat
Crazy Mary’s drugs are adrenaline and bile, that’s where Mary’s at

There’s a dirt road runs along the river past my front yard
And the summer’s dust’l kill ya but the winters can be mighty hard
Trains rumble day and night as the neighbors they come and go
Life’s a twisted crooked web for a lot of folks don’t you know

Chorus
