(The Devil is Beating His Wife)

Water drops on the berries
Splashing on the window pane
Old leaves loosing there color
Morning grey with Rain
I just saw a crow flying
Had the sky all to himself
I got the water boiling
Got coffee on the shelf

This house seems so much colder with every day that you are gone
I look around for the old guitar
Time to write a Rainy song

I don’t watch no TV
Don’t answer the telephone
Election day is coming
I just pretend I’m not at home
Everybody wants my money
Wants to put up their yard signs
And darkness comes so early in the evening
And a bottle of tasteless wine

I can count the days and hours of the time that you’ve been gone
Look around for that old guitar
Time to write a Rainy song

I can still see the playfulness in your eyes
Remember the smell of your skin
Can feel the tickling of your hair
And that state you put me in
I can count the days since your leaving
The hours till you return again
I can tell there ain’t no filling that empty you left me in

Theses days of separation have gone on much too long
Look around for that old guitar
Time to write a Rainy song.
