Working Man

I was sitting here playing an old song and the thought of you came to mind
Sitting and strumming on your beat up guitar
And you died before your time
They say some people are special: Most of the rest of us ain’t
You were one of the regulars
You never had fortune and fame

Way up in the mountains of Idaho the wind still whistles by day
Its been 40 years since you worked there
The big trees still fall by the way
You lived a life that saw changes from ice men to men on the moon
You lived your life as a working man
And then you died too soon

A Man can spend his life in a factory, working for family and home
But all of it’s useless labor
If he spends his life alone
You lived your life as a family man and you died before your time
Now your family is spending its life away
And I’m singing away mine

I remember you playing your guitar, I remember you singing your songs
But life is so fickle so precious
You sang for awhile then you’re gone
Now people don’t know what they’re missing when they don’t take time out to enjoy
The little bit of playing and singing
That I grew up with when I was a boy

I was sitting here playing an old song and the thought of you came to mind
Sitting and strumming on your beat up guitar
And you died before your time
Sitting and strumming on your beat up guitar
And you died before your time
